The purpose of this blog is to track my progress in my attempts at preventive geriatrics. That's to say that I wish to prevent the disease of aging. I have already started a regiment of nootropics and have been on them for over a year now. As of last Friday I have started taking Astragalus powder and have adjusted my diet to encourage the activation of telomerase within my body's cells. You can read more about my regiment by following the link to the left. I have yet to create that content yet will as soon as time allows.
I take my yearly physical just after my birthday in October. My last physical shows me to be in excellent physical condition. I am 52 years old, weigh about 185 lbs and have begun to feel and notice the effects of aging. At the age of 49 I did not feel any major changes in my physiology. I tire more quickly and have trouble getting to sleep. My eyesight has steadily degraded and I have to wear glasses when my eyes get tired. I have a receding hairline and take Fanasteride and Kirkland Signature Minoxidil to fight the progression of baldness. I have no major physical complaints aside from occasional acid reflux. Sounds like pretty basic complaints for a 52 year old male. I workout and run occasionally but as a practice wish to increase this activity.
With that behind us I will discuss my experience with nootropics (noots). I have been on a steady diet of Piracetam, ALCAR and Choline Bitartrate. In addition to these I also take Lion's Mane Mushroom, Gotu Kola and Ashwagandha. You can see why I chose these noots on the Nootropics page to the left (again when I finish it). Before I started over a year ago I noticed that my memory was slipping and I had a rough time reaching for words. Since I started my regiment of noots I feel my memory has gotten much better and I can recall things from memory almost without hesitation.
I take the Astragalus powder three times a day as a tea (soup). I have to stir it to keep it suspended as I drink it. The only thing I noticed was that the first day I felt a bit of exhilaration after my afternoon caffeine. More than usual and it made me feel a bit uneasy. I suspect this may have had something to do with the antioxidant effect of Astragalus. I have not experienced this since. The only thing I noticed is that I am sleeping a bit better and it takes me less time to sleep.
I am planning on adding a concoction of c60 and Olive Oil (c60-oo) to my regiment next month. I would start in two weeks but I am hampered by finances and time. You can read my thoughts on c60-oo in the Cell Maintenance page (Again to be finished).
I hang-out on the LONGECITY website and you can contact me there if you are a member.
